Annual Mexican Jungle Yin-Yang Yoga Retreat

February 10th to 17th , 2018 in San Pancho, Mexico in the state of Nayarit, known as Mexico’s Riviera, $1,495.

Every wisdom tradition has some version of “you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Beyond mwah-mwah kiss-kiss — and in a time when our neighbors might be so “other” that it’s hard for us to conjure up “like,” never mind love — how can we move from a fear-based mentality to a sense of grounded and genuine love?

During this Valentine’s Day week, we’ll allow our hearts (and nervous systems) to soften on this serene setting on Mexico’s Pacific coast as we explore the kind of love that leads to what Rabbi Abraham Heschel called “radical amazement… get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually.”

Indeed, you’ll wake up to birdsong and as the week progresses, you’ll be amazed at how you feel.

We’ll stay at a delightful eco-lodge located 30 miles north of Puerto Vallarta (less than an hour’s drive), immersing ourselves in the lush nature which one of my shamanic/poetry teachers referred to as “direct revelation.”

This could be you

This could be you

You’ll wake up to birdsong and spend a week doing as much or as little as you like.  We’ll enjoy two luxurious yoga classes daily* perched on our platform with an ocean view.  As the week progresses, you’ll find your tension dissipating and your ideas about yoga expanding far beyond the confines of your mat.

Our prana-filled yoga studio

The schedule — including sacred circles and special workshops — will be built around the group’s interests.  One day we’ll kayak on the sea, and one evening we’ll dine in nearby San Pancho after having birdwatched at sunset. The rest of the time, you might choose to get a massage to the sound of crashing waves, visit nearby market towns to purchase Mexican folk art, read novels or snooze cocooned in a hammock, or walk on any of the hiking trails that run through the property — including one which ascends through a jungle ridge passing through an orchid plantation and avocado grove, eventually descending to a deserted white sand beach with natural therapeutic mud baths.

Hippocrates famously advised “let food be your medicine, and medicine your food” and a highlight of our time together is mealtime. Our chefs prepare fresh, delicious and clean food — much of it raw and vegan — all with a Mexican twist. Perfect for the end of winter, you’ll come home lighter and brighter, nourished from the inside out.

“I kicked off 2016 by attending my first yoga retreat. I went alone. Intending to “get away from it all,” I instead moved closer to what required change outside of paradise. The retreat’s format and facilitation equipped me with the awareness, tools, and community to Quit the Dumb Shit (a great line from this poem). Led by the gifted and gracious Yael, my nervous system experienced a complete reset. Lulled to sleep by the ocean’s waves, eating well without the work, luxuriating in the beautiful surroundings; it was easier to breathe deeply. Absent demands and distractions, the simple modalities of writing, conversation, and standup paddle-boarding prepared me for the year’s challenges.  The retreat was a major turning point and its impact lasted all year, so in February 2017, I returned for another round to sow seeds for the year ahead. ” — Parker T, past Jungle Yin/Yang retreat participant.
