A summer’s night at White Oak Savanna, Wisconsin, where I was lucky enough to teach at a music festival
Heading into this last quarter of 2025, I feel walloped-emboldened-fragmented-fortunate-flooded — all in a single 11-minute meditation sit. I take heart in being well accompanied.
Humans are highly complex, multidimensional, intuitive and intelligent beings, continually responding to the inner and outer environment and thousands of inputs daily. Our programming is decidedly more labyrinthian than the binary code I was forced to learn in my math & science high school in Manhattan in the 1980s. And yet the technosphere is all-engulfing and values that include nuance and liberty and even empathy are being attacked.
What gives me hope is the memory that even if this moment is new, we have been at these points of choice before. We know that after rock bottom comes recovery. We can’t know how long this chapter will last. Or how much more suffering will come. But we do know that what is needed is our creativity and our love and our bearing witness and our being active agents of change.
You are the harvest of many lifetimes of seeding the most phenomenal ideas and attributes your ancestors might have imagined. Pick up the tools of your trade — whether it’s a pen, paintbrush, a dutch oven, a test tube — and let’s get to work. We need everyone’s gifts.
Next week, I head to the magical city of Oaxaca where I’ll be with my dear friend Wendy Call and writers working on book-length manuscripts. Later this fall, I’ll offer opportunities to re-encounter your creative side and lead others in the practice of Yin. As important as what we do and learn is that we do it together. Hoping to see you soon!
Love,
Yael
